I Bleed Hoya Blue

Almost every time I tell someone here in Otown where I went to college, I get the same response: "Georgetown? Oh, well, excuuuuuuse me!" After the first few times this happened, I began to think that maybe I was bringing it on myself by unknowingly saying it with a snotty tone or affecting a British accent, but then Quasi came to visit. And she got the exact same response. Why do people say this? It brings the entire conversation to a halt and creates a terribly awkward moment. I mean, really, how am I supposed to react to this? All I can manage is an "uhhh, yeah." Do people expect me to say, "Yeah, that's right. I do think that I am better than you"? I'm open to suggestions of good responses if you have one.
